security in an insecure world

News of insecurity, instability, and uncertainty are on TV every day. We watch it as if it were surprising and disturbing. Why does it surprise and disturb us?

I was with Indian church planter last week and he said, "If you haven't learned this yet, you should learn it now. Nothing in life is secure. The Bible says even the foundations of the earth will be shaken."

This is reality.

The reality of our world is that it is passing away. The old is going and the new is coming. This should not surprise us. It has been foretold long ago.

Check these scriptures out:
"But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness." 1 Peter 310-13

"Do not love the world or anything in the world.... The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever." 1 John 2:15, 17

"See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven? At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, "Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens." The words "once more" indicate the removing of what can be shaken - that is, created things - so that what cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our "God is a consuming fire." Hebrews 12:25-29
There is only one thing that remains secure in this world. It is Christ and his unshakable kingdom. Are you a part of Christ and his coming kingdom? Jesus says:
"I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit." John 3:5
Have you been born of God, through the Spirit of God? When we are born of God through Christ, we are no longer part of the world or its perishing nature. To be born of God means we belong to God and are given eternal, unending life. Even though the earth will perish, we will live forever. God and his kingdom is eternal. It is unshakable. When we put our faith in Jesus death for our sins we are placed into God in Christ. Why put your trust in things that will perish? Why not put your trust in he who is eternal. God's Word says:
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16
"to all those who receive him (Jesus), to those who believe in his name, he gave the right to become children of God - children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God." John 1:12-13

"I tell you the truth, whoever hears my (Jesus) word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life." John 5:24

"For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God." 1 Peter 3:18
Will you put your trust in Jesus? Jesus died for your sins so that you can have eternal life. Even if this world crumbles to ruins, your security in Christ will never crumble. When you put your trust in Jesus' death for your sins your are given new life - the resurrected life of God. You are no longer your own, you are his. He purchased you with his death and will be with you forever.
"Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory." Colossians 3:1-4
I invite you confess your sins to God and open your life to Jesus. He desires to bring you into his eternal family and give you the power to live a God honoring life. You can start your relationship with God today. All you have to do is turn to him in prayer.
"if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord" and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9
To learn more about the Bible you can start by reading the Book of John.
